Sumi and her husband jointly run poultry farm with the help of two helpers hired locally. They rear 3500 layers and 5000 broilers in 5 sheds built on the premises of their house. They also started a mini dairy farm with 5 cows. Sumi was instrumental in transforming their family economy from wage earning to the current form. She got married when she was a student of class-viii. Kiron (her husband) was a wage earner and labored had to make their end meet. They had three children within few years after their marriage. This put further strain on their family’s subsistence. Sumi was determined to come to the help of her husband. She was looking for a way out. Among many options rearing fowls seemed to be very promising. Being very smart, imaginative and energetic by nature she convinced her husband and started poultry rearing back in 2013. They started with 600 broilers housed in one rented shed in their neighborhood with the money they managed to get from their relatives. They learned the skills from the villagers and worked hard to succeed in their effort to boosting up family income. They in-fact did well and income earned from the venture was quite handsome. Being inspired they wanted to expand their farm size. But lack of capital funds prevented them from materializing their desire for expansion. So Sumi was desperate to arrange for necessary funds. She came to know about Pidim Foundation from Mala Begum, one of her neighbors. Sumi soon helped Kiron, her husband get membership of Pidim’s Lakhpur Mohila Shomity (ID no. 121). He was given BDT 2 lac from Pidim as loan first time.  He also participated a day-long training organized by Pidim on Poultry Rearing. Focus of the training was on poultry feed, bio-security and poultry vaccination. Kiron became adept in managing their poultry farm after receiving the training. With the knowledge learned from the training he could keep poultry mortality rate to the minimum.

Kiron and Sumi repaid their first loan in full complying with the terms and conditions of the loan and proved their eligibility to take bigger loan. He and Sumi jointly applied for such loan and after thorough scrutiny by Sector Specialist they were given next loan of BDT 10 lac. With the money they could enlarge their farm size significantly. Sumi and Kiron spend most of their working hour in their farm. Their net income at present stands at BDT 60 thousand per month. With this income they now can run their family including schooling of their children quite well. They still have a plan to further increase their farm in the coming years. Sumi has the quality of an entrepreneur and a source of inspiration to her family as well as her neighbors. People respect Sumi for her talent and unwavering spirit.
