Rekha Rani is known for her resilience and unflinching personality. She with her husband and three sons used to live in a dilapidated tin-shed house near Charshindu Bazar in Charshindu Union. They lived in precarious and punishing economic conditions. She and her husband worked as day laborer to earn their livelihood. They become disgruntled with the state of affairs and were looking for way out. Rekha came to know Anjali Rani, the Chairperson of Chameli Samity, one of Pidim supported Savings and Credit Group, who helped her in admitting to the Samity and taking a loan of BDT 25 thousand. With the money she set up a tea stall in nearby market. Both she and her husband worked hard to run the nascent business. Soon they made good amount of progress. They borrowed BDT 30 thousand from Pidim after repaying their previous loan. Utilizing the money they converted their tea stall into a mini restaurant serving tea and snacks to people visiting the market. They continued to expand their business with repeat loan. The third loan was BDT 40 thousand. They further engaged themselves in making traditional sweets with the money, which they did quite well and also, brought them additional income. They became very good at that and the demand for their sweets rose quickly. With money borrowed next time they went wholesale of sweets to distant customers. In the meantime Rekha purchased and reared cows for side income. They successively took loan of BDT 370 thousand and expanded their ‘sweet making’ venture without any major obstacle. They along with their children now run the business. Besides, they employed five full time paid laborers to help them in the job. They now sell 200 to 2400 kg sweets a month. Their monthly income now stands at BDT--------, which is quite sufficient to live a respectable life. They earned their financial solvency with hard work and determination. Pidim is very proud of being able to help Rekha and her husband in achieving goal of their life.
