Board Meeting on Natural Hazards and Associated Risks


PIDIM, a national NGO having one of its working areas in Sherpur, organized a Workshop at Sherpur Shilpokola Academy on December 07, 2010, focusing on Community Capacity Building towards effective Response to Natural Hazards and associated Risks. The objective of the workshop was to share its DRR program activites with GOB Officials, LEB Representatives, Civil Society Members, NGOs executives, Journalists and primary Stakeholders (StakeNet members). The workshop was presided over by Mr. Thomas B Baroi, the President, Pidim Foundation. Mohammad Nasiruzzaman, Deputy Commissioner of Sherpur district graced the occasion as Chief Guest with Mr. Md. Iddris Ali Bhuiyan, Assistant Superintendent of Police, HQ.

1. Inaugural Address (By Mr. Advin Barun Banerjee, Executive Director, Pidim Foundation)

Following the welcome address he said, “You may know that Pidim Foundation has long been involved in development of poor and marginalized people in enaigati and Nalitabari upazilas (sub-district) of Sherpur district.

2. Paper Presentation

Following the inaugural address Mr. Michael Adhikari, Manager, Training made the PowerPoint presentation on the topic titled Natural Hazards Risk Reduction Planning, a document prepared by compilation of data from 5 separate CRA (Community Risk Assessment) reports, which were the outcome of participatory exercise involving cross-section of the community representing 4 (four) Unions in Jenaigati and 1 in Nalitabari Upazila. The entire process was modeled GOB Comprehensive Disaster Management Program (CDMP). Each of the participants was given a hardcopy of the presentation
